This group exhibition consists of four emerging international artists who engage the public with themes of ontology and the awareness of being. Works by Sepideh Saii, Melis van den Berg, Benedict Youngman and Joshua Kim create a psychological dialogue through the examination of cinema, language, time-based video projects and objects that create a metaphysical narrative. Through installation, video and a revolving curatorial selection of works, the artists seek to explore a sense of “being” in history and its psychological effect on visual culture. By drawing from technology, autobiography, mysticism, continental philosophy and phenomenology, the exhibition works to create a temporary experience for the viewer to question preconceived notions of time and relationships to historical events. The White Box, in Portland Ore., will be the inaugural exhibition of ONTOLOGUE , scheduled to tour through Canada and the United States.
